It's about time… to take INDIVIDUAL responsibility for our MUTUAL benefit..

Un-Yielding

The ongoing development of highway infrastructure to support local, regional, and national commerce is a suitable comparison for the current transition of the internet.

In highway infrastructure, the basic 4-way stop-and-go of a local intersection is more constraining than the yield-and-merge of a traffic circle or highway cloverleaf.

Similarly, online, we are now moving from the roadside (website) advertising to capture some stop-n-go local business traffic – to value transfer in regional markets (syndication) – to participation in a global economy that while virtual is still based on relationships – that are based on how well we interact (social networking).

The internet is providing the needed connectivity. However, without a framework for interactions we could develop merely networked chaos, more intersection gridlock.

To avoid social, political, or economic gridlock, our online interaction must dynamically adjust to allow each individual to equitably participate in that open-market ‘conversation’ as we find resources for our needs or provide value to others as well. Even that supply chain equation is shifting from CRM to VRM, from push to pull.

In real and virtual interactions, whether between only two people or within an infinite number of participants, certain requirements will ensure effective interchange (think traffic circle). Certain constructs must be present in the framework of those conversations, including:

  • Access must be FORMALIZED so that all global citizens can equitably participate – without repressive constraints.
  • The content must be NORMALIZED to reflect a common basis of discussion – of understanding – and of benefit.
  • Interaction must be MEDIATED to ensure all viewpoints are considered in route to a mutually beneficial consensus.

When all the participants can agree to the means of interaction at each local intersection, they can be equally comfortable and safe as they interact the same way anywhere along the global information highway. Individuals can get their personal needs met in a local context and also contribute to the needs of others, in a global context.

Transition to this type model will not take place without some initial changes to former modes of interaction (thinking, listening, acting). Stovepipe discussions in threaded conversations will need to become shared between websites that are interoperable. An objective and self-correcting approach to problem-solving must be made universally available so collaboration participants can be represented in related conversations and any ongoing re-adjustments that become prudent, by consensus.

Stop-n-go must be replaced by yield-and-merge.

ASK4™, a minimal four-question structure – provides individual influence to equitable control of the international relationship economy.
