RECESSION? (Because………because….!) -Recovery? (ROOT CAUSE)

with one comment

RECESSION? (Because!) Nothing is more painfully obvious than the results of bad decisions – made “because” of someone’s illogical motive. Illogical motives – again painfully obvious to everyone else(“because…”) – are those based on something other than good logic. Illogical decisions (like ‘little white lies’) will not stand on their own merits and must be supported by other props (like more lying).recessn_recovery Nor will they be corrected or relieved until evaluated – by a few incisive questions being asked.

RECOVERY? (Root Cause) The logical basis for any viable solution begins with information – obtained from the stake-holders themselves – and objectively parsed against the issues that aggregate to the visible symptoms of the problem – and its actual impacts.

It is just that obvious and just that simple and just that difficult. Making that direct connection (between cause and effect) is entirely possible and routinely avoided – “because!”.

Many may have missed the recent celebration of the event on December 16 that once helped establish and save our democracy under somewhat similar circumstances. Little was published in the (formerly unbiased?) press about how (without the aid of the collective voice of the internet) multiple citizens once stood up- and stood for- equitable treatment…at the ‘Boston Tea Party’. Perhaps we overlooked it “because” we were too busy listening to politicians tell us that we now had to bail out this one and that one (of their constituents) “because..”. Perhaps those companies could have avoided being in that situation, but were now struggling “because..”. Perhaps the workers in those companies who were intimately familiar with the issues were not asked by their leaders about their opinions for solutions “because”. Perhaps other stake-holders who were not represented at board rooms and in Congress, were now feeling the impacts…”because”.

Why do people vote for politicians? (because they want to be represented by them). Why do politicians run for office? (because they want to influence the system). Why do entities lobby for favors from politicians? (because they want (in)equitable treatment). Why does this system fail to serve the entire population? – again “because” it is not transparent and accountable to ALL those it claims to ‘equitably’ represent.

Why can this be? – “because” what gets done is not DIRECTLY visible, reviewed, overseen, or influenced by the stake-holders. Why is there no direct review or oversight? – “because” the representative are attempting to hide political motives instead of exhibiting visible statesmanship. Why? – “because; Why? – “because”; Why? – “because”, etc.

If it weren’t “politically incorrect” to challenge the status quo – we might not be ‘mis-represented’ by our politicians or in this status (recession). If that statement is at all true – we will not get out of this situation until we begin to ask the right questions and get past the “because” and find the root cause(s). Have WE had enough yet – Is anyONE else ready for true change ?

One notable individual once clarified the challenge for all times and all places and all people. One individual became “the change that he wanted to see” (Ghandhi), and issued that simple challenge for the rest of us to follow. Since then, many have realized that ‘they are the root cause’ and that until THEY take a personal stand, the situation will not get any better “because” they are still “BEing” passive (not inquiring or resisting). Passivity always ensures that the situation will be passed along – predictably going from bad to worse, “because”. History is predictable in repeating itself in that regard.

If we are to avoid repeating that history, it will demand statesmanship again – or it could (again?) ‘brew up’ some anarchy. I’d like to say that I’ve had enough of that kind of history and am ready to BE-come a part of the ‘change’. I’d like to believe that there actually is a chance for change we can BE-lieve in. We have been promised (by politicians) that change is coming. That change will demand transparency that has not been widely implemented. It will demand that the voice of the stake-holders is not silenced from their public proclamation platforms or questionably purged from those ‘public’ records just “because”.

If..we care, ALL we have to do is be willing to BE a part of ALL those who will seek the root cause of what we ALL have allowed to occur. The solution will become visible in that answer. The internet (for now) affords us the freedom to assemble virtually unencumbered to collectively inquire and influence what we individually and globally want to BE-come as citizens, communities, and countries. picture-24The answer is in the questions – all we have to do is ASK4 it – and become united in providing our individual insight and protecting our mutual interests across our

How RELEVANT is Context?

with 2 comments

That depends! Relevance is: pertinent, applicable, important, germane, appropriate, and significant. Context is: background, circumstance, environment, perspective, or framework. Already you may notice the tripl_liftdifference and again you may ask: so what?

These two co-dependent attributes bear heavily on our past, and our current, and our future life and lifestyles. Depending on what has already happened, we may have to adjust our framework or perspective to be more applicable or appropriate. Depending on what is happening, it may be significant or just a passing circumstance. Depending on what happens next, we may be empowered or severely impacted.

And now even most of the items we interact with and the environments that we interact within are sensing and sensitive to whatever we are doing, giving us and others real-time factual (data) and visual (video) feedback.

Whatever we do and whoever we do it with can become known by anyone else in less than one second. Our reality is now being echoed in the virtual dimensions of the web.

Our existence is being captured and cataloged, represented and researched, interpreted and evaluated in real time by a universe of collecting devices and assessment processes – and by ‘those’ people. We are ‘those people’ – both evaluating and being evaluated.

In this new virtual world, we are no longer just passive recipients of online information. We are now the active expositors and engaged participants, forced into a new type ‘global conversation’ and virtual interaction that demands a new approach.

It requires that we find a new common framework in which to collect our diverse perspectives and through which to derive an equitable consensus – each within the local context of our somewhat unique needs – while collectively maintaining the relevance of a global perspective.

Relevance has changed little – what was important to us still is. What has changed more is context. As we get together virtually, no one has established the framework for our new form of conversation – or the rules within that new teliris_virtualmtginteraction process. Memberships and attendance and locations and parliamentary procedures no longer dictate the house rules of our orderly conduct. Borders and nationality and treaties no longer establish preference or privilege across this expanded network. We are all one and the same virtual community in this new ‘flat earth society’ where transparency is the value behind its information currency – in an online (and off-line) relationship economy.

Your value to me and mine to you – now depends on how well we interact and support our mutual benefits… one-to-one-to-many. Diversity of opinion is expected, necessary, and must be equitably considered by all. And the system itself must require and then enforce this approach.

• Only a self-governance approach can now represent everyone.
• Only a self-correcting approach can adjust to the constant change.
• Only a self-policing system can prevent decisions that could deny us these intended results.

A simple way to ensure this is by formalizing a familiar way of thinking; and adopting it as our consistent way of collaborating – around the world. Rather than amend to exhaustive rules, we can engage a sequence of ubiquitous questions that dynamically:
• 1) capture our issues and
• 2) dissect our challenges and
• 3) extract our options – objectively.
Only transparency OF the participants can ensure that this system remains accountable TO them. To-date, not even the United Nations has a methodology to accomplish that. Tyranny is the unfortunate alternative.

Any anarchy that is identified becomes the immediate challenge to be resolved by all within this new framework. By merely agreeing to use this self-managing approach at each of our interactions, we can all then enjoy its shared benefits.

We all have needs and we all want solutions. We all need to be heard and we all want to be appreciated. That’s the reason that people join groups like MySpace, and post their presence on Facebook, and pontificate on their own blogs. By syndicating its structured approach across these diverse platforms, this uniform framework can convert unraveled ‘threaded’ discourse into ‘collaboration on purpose’ and change meaningless chat into meaningful conversations. No issue can occur that cannot be equitably addressed by the ASK4 process and resolved by our self-managed cooperation across its U-Netted Nations.

That suggests that it can be beneficial in personal relationships, business decisions, or international détente. These are the arenas in which we all participate.

• That is the universal CONTEXT in which this can become RELEVANT
– to each of us.

• It is perhaps also the way we can become RELEVANT to each other
– within this new CONTEXT.

A-S-K and it shall be…

with one comment

picture-105 Ask, and it shall be given you;

Seek, and you shall find;

Knock, and it shall be opened …

Most of us have heard this idiom and considered its meaning – at least at the obvious level of understanding. To some it has also disclosed wisdom beyond what is stated for power that can be unleashed in one’s own behalf and for all others as well. It frames a simple and profound ‘secret formula’ that holds true in both the practical and spiritual dimensions.

To those who can hear, it may be ‘simply profound’.

ASK – is an important position from which to start. Know it or not, we typically do not know it all. Instead, we are prone to mentally assemble our ‘current’ opinions and launch into some initiative – without asking first. What follows is often an offense to others in the situation or a misplaced effort that exacerbates the problem further or is ineffective in resolving the issue at hand. Asking enforces the

transparency that is critical to any progress.

SEEK – is an ongoing process that can only follow after we accumulate what can be known by asking. Once we have ASKED, we can then seek insight WITHIN what is now known – as it applies to our quest and questions. Seeking without asking first is out of sequence and likely to lead us away from any solution – beguiling us to address symptoms rather than

getting to the root cause.

KNOCK – is an action that requires a position – at a door of opportunity. Without first asking and then clarifying where to knock, we might bang on the wrong door, or lean our ladder of success against the wrong wall. We are not entitled to opportunity if we are unwilling to continue to actively knock – not stopping at door #1 only to miss the prize behind door #3, or #4, or #6, etc.

‘Affirmative action’ is completely different than ‘entitled waiting’…

Any call to action or any effort to create CHANGE will fail if these simple principles are out of sequence or abandoned at any point.

  • Failing to ASK perpetuates assumptions and exclusion.
  • Failing to SEEK perpetuates blindness and ignorance.
  • Failing to KNOCK creates stagnation and frustration.

This simply profound system is self-monitoring. If any of the symptoms of assumption, blindness, or stagnation are present, the system is not engaged. If any of the feelings of exclusion, mis-information, or frustration are present, someone is being isolated or not represented in the process or the benefits.

This simply profound system is self-correcting. Any issue that is individually noticed can then be individually or collectively addressed by the process.

This simply profound system is self-improving. Every step through the sequence arrives at a new position that is more aware, informed, and opportune than the last.

This simply profound system is self-policing. Any individual can easily learn and quickly amend to this sequence. Any symptom that occurs becomes immediately apparent and can be addressed cooperatively, and toward resolution rather than blame. Seeking ‘blame’ indicates a telling symptom of an assumption, blindness, or a focus on stagnation rather than progress.

Individually and collectively this is a useful model for progress. I have to individually ascribe to the formula for my own purpose – and collectively we have to all amend to its process in order to cooperate toward our mutual benefit. It is a granular formula that can scale to support small group, community, regional, and even international initiatives.

So I ask, “What would happen if each of us used this as a way to think, a way to act, a way to collaborate, a way to interact, a simply profound way to co-manage our local circumstances and our global responsibilities?”

SELF-ishness will never work!

VOTER FRAUD (or Defrauded?)

leave a comment »

Which is it – fraudulent or defrauded – democratic or democracy, and what’s the difference?

Just because “everybody” says it or seems to believe it – doesn’t mean that ‘group think’ will best enforce democracy, let alone represent those whose motive may be democratically aligned with ‘the party’ line.

In fact the ‘party line’ is often a manufactured belief to which others are asked to conform or to align for the perceived ‘good of the group’. Certainly one cannot express any opposition since that can be ‘career limiting’ and castigation may soon follow. At first it is just ‘politically incorrect’ then unpopular, then tyranny when everyone else has been ‘won over’.

Turns out that opposition may be exactly how democracy can survive – by those who raise counterpoints, are not ‘swayed’ by crowd noise, and that at least stop the lemming run for a moment of sanity. Instead, many often rush to do the WRONG thing, in small and even large groups. This is made clear in their book “SWAY” – by authors Ori and Rom Brafman who note these interesting observations on human nature, explaining why teams, companies, Congress, or even nations may not be democratic by nature.

Perhaps that explains why many seemingly intelligent folks democratically agreed to act in a way that created the crisis which some others saw coming. Perhaps since some are actually at fault, that explains why they want others to act quickly on some ‘bailout’ so that EVERYONE can then be seen as co-conspirators when THAT new solution becomes the next problem. Perhaps it explains why rather than ‘focusing ON’ the solution many are just ‘cussing AT’ each other. And perhaps it might help to have an explanation that even ‘Forrest Gump’ understands, as reported here:

– – –
Mortgage Backed Securities are
…like boxes of chocolates.

“Key political figures” thought everyone was entitled to have some – even if they couldn’t afford them. So they funded some ‘nutty’ agency to organize community action groups and promote this giveaway idea. Lenders that refused to share their chocolates were noted as ‘politically incorrect’ and even more pressure was put on them – including some strong words from the Attorney General’s office.

To make the deal worse, some criminals on Wall Street stole a few chocolates from the boxes and “CHANGED” them for turds. Their criminal buddies at Standard & Poor rated these boxes AAA Investment Grade chocolates. These boxes were then sold all over the world to investors. The stolen chocolates were given to “key political figures” as ‘protection money’ so these criminals could continue unnoticed. Eventually somebody bites into a turd and discovers the crime.

Suddenly nobody trusts the American chocolates anymore. Chocolate values are starting to ‘stink’ everywhere – globally. Hank Paulson steps in and wants the American taxpayers to buy up and hold all these boxes of turd-infested chocolates for $700 billion dollars until the American market for chocolate returns to normal or all the turds can be found. Some other politicians are not sure about this but approved it because something sure needs to be done, and quick. The world’s key financial leaders all wonder what to do and why this was happening.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street criminals who stole all the good chocolates quit the business taking even more stolen chocolates with them. They aren’t being investigated, arrested, or indicted because the same “key political figures” are still in charge – and promising even greater ‘CHANGE’ – soon. And, they claim that the real problem is that they weren’t being regulated well enough to prevent this crime – and that we ALL need to share any blame.

Some in the press are accusing those who smell something of having a rotten attitude because they have their heads up their buts – even accusing them of being against sharing candy of any kind. They say that we’re too dumb to understand these complicated issues…

But Mama always said: ‘Turds can look just like chocolate, Forrest’.

So if you find yourself frustrated by recent events and your inability to explain it to your colleagues or Congressmen, remember:

For those who understand,
no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand,
no explanation is possible.

And when you get that most precious opportunity to vote, remember:

  • It is not whether you vote with the majority that may really count
  • You might be voting with the ‘majority of folks who are wrong…’ or those whose intentions are purely selfish and might entice you to

…democratically vote away your rights to have a democracy.

In DEMOCRACY – it’s your vote that counts,

in Feudalism – it’s your Count that VOTES.

…and that’s all there is to say about that…!

CHANGE (Who Cares?)

leave a comment »

As they say “..those that can’t remember history are doomed to repeat it.”

That’s a good warning for third-world nations and developing democracies.

New democracies tend only to survive for a limited period anyway.

But what difference does that change make…

Who cares if democracy thrives – somewhere, around the world ?

Who cares if citizens overlook history only to repeat it to their own demise?

Who cares if their statesmen succumb to merely personal gain and politics?

Who cares if politicians use political correctness to spin truth, gain status?

Who cares if leaders take their country into shambles and citizens into panic?

Who cares if in panic, citizens cast their fate into the hands of those traitors?

Who cares if that happens in developing democracies or third-world nations?

Certainly not those in developed countries, who don’t recognize it – at home.

Certainly not those who aren’t clear on what has ‘changed’, or still might!

CHANGE doesn’t have to be beneficial – but benefits can come from REFORM.

– –

The answer to the current financial crisis – or any other local or global crisis is ‘transparency’. That starts with the press and culminates in legislation. Even within the process of legislation, those who are elected may mis-represent the voters.

In DEMOCRACY – it’s your vote that counts,
in Feudalism – it’s your Count that VOTES.

Until and unless each facet of every vote they cast is actually “counted” (line-item voting), they can not be easily held ‘accountable’ (for ‘packaged’ rubbish). That’s why how ‘we’ vote and then how ‘they vote for us’ COUNTS.

And dare we complain or express our dissent?

Do we even get a voice in our own destiny?

Whether we can maintain freedom of the press will influence whether we maintain free democracy. If either is ‘crooked’, one cannot express any opposition since that can be seen as ‘abusive, obscene, threatening, libelous or defamatory’ and castigated or denied by those so ‘offended’. At first it is just ‘politically incorrect’ then Unpopular, then TYRANNY when everyone else (including the press) has been ‘won over’ to ‘one side‘.

So it is vitally important that when you get that

most precious opportunity to vote, remember:

o It is not whether you vote with the majority that may really count
o You might be voting for or with the ‘majority of folks who are wrong…’
or those whose intentions are purely selfish and might entice you to
…democratically vote away your rights to have a democracy.

Without democracy – even your voice will be silenced…
– first by political ‘popularity’

– then by the pressure of the ‘press’

– then by the power of THEIR ‘governance’ !

In some cases that may already be true…

Re:ACT Now!! (pronto or Tonto?)

leave a comment »

We need it real bad and real quick!..

…and we nearly got both of those – together in the 2008 bailout ‘package’.

Among other causes, the record confirms that well-intentioned individuals acted in concert to create or permit (and in many cases also personally benefit) from results that now suggest the need for other (and greater) ‘panic’. In some cases, those perpetrators may now (what, again?) be acting in concert or perhaps in a covert manner.

The KEY questions remain – as to what type response is actually needed NOW – and then what type punishment (if any) may be needed TOMORROW – for the original AND current perpetrators.

PANIC is the culmination of well-intentioned individuals gaining the emotional momentum to act together to create results that re-create the perceived need for other ‘urgent’ or panicked reactions, etc.

LEADERSHIP is the clarity of purpose and management of thought to create viable solutions and take well-reasoned action on behalf of EVERYONE.

Leadership looks like introspection and research – while panic looks more like a ‘war dance’ – loud, active, energizing, and entirely inconclusive.

None of the noise, warpaint, or feathers are impressive if there is still an imminent risk or shortage of some kind.

Here’s a little ‘tribal knowledge’ from back inside the ‘Tee Pee’:

– our scalps are at risk and we have no weapons

– our tribal loyalty will only last if we are well defended

So, here’s some Sharman ‘insight’ that just might work:

– listen to the scouts who know where the enemy ‘lies’

– look under the war-paint and see if each warrior is ‘trustworthy’

– make sure everyone lines up so they don’t wound each other

or worse yet – hurt US (again?).

War-paint on a two-faced traitor might be even worse…than lipstick on a pig…

Right – Kemo Sabe?

The answer to this financial crisis might not have to cost us our favorite beads – or require that we sell off our Manhattan island holdings (so to speak)…- at least according to Dave Ramsey.

And finally (speaking of ‘pork’) – CONSIDER THIS:

What would happen if Congress had to actually vote on each LINE ITEM ..instead of being allowed to insert bundled “pork” into every piece of legislation and then avoid any true ACCOUNTABILITY to us?

What if your grocer REQUIRED that you purchase a few “bad eggs” in each dozen…like Congress keeps doing with our legislation ‘packages‘…?

Aren’t we ENTITLED to know…who truly defends ALL OUR INTERESTS..

instead of secretly serving only their ‘political party’..?

NOTE: for “PC” and more honorable purposes – my apologies to any real patriots, tribes, Sharmans, warriors, or swine).

6 Questions About CHANGE

leave a comment »

• NOTHING is perfect!

• NO ONE has the answer!

• EVERYONE wants CHANGE!

Perhaps that is why marriages don’t last, churches are biligerently different, businesses aren’t profitable, cities aren’t hospitable, politics have replaced statesmanship. and governments aren’t friendly.

If we all seek ‘answers’ – then there must be ‘questions’ from which answers would of course result. Instead, we are often busy seeking ways to be heard – rather than listening. And if listening for the best answers is the better approach, shouldn’t we be seeking the BEST ‘questions’ (like that one for instance)?. For anything to change, some things have to be decided first:

  • Who gets to decide (representation)
  • How will they(we) decide (objectivity)
  • Who gets the benefits of the change (impacts)
  • When will the changes take effect (priority)
  • And, there are certainly more questions…

In their recent book ‘How The Wise Decide‘, authors Aaron Sandoski and Bryn Zeckhauser provide six fundamental principles that are consistently used by the successful leaders whom they studied. Their observations confirmed that these six concepts are both true and useful for anyone, universally:

  • Go to the Source
  • Fill a Room with Barbarians
  • Conquer the Fear of Risk
  • Make Vision Your Daily Guide
  • Listen with Purpose
  • Be Transparent

If those are true for business, how would they work for government, city councils, non-profits, fraternal or religious groups, or even our individual thought patterns? That is another good question. How would our relationships, communities, or nations work if we were consistently guided in those principals, in that process, and toward the proven benefit of ‘success’? What core questions can give us those answers, those results?.

The conviction to find those questions is a challenge I embraced after reflecting on broken conversations, broken relationships, broken processes, broken companies, broken churches, broken governance, and the broken lives that lay in the wake of all those patterns of broken thinking. Again, I do not wish to lay claim, just reflect that in my own parallel experience I too am a believer, witness, and recipient of the missed opportunities of the past.

However, I am also now aware of the unlimited power that is possible in the future by these truths and the ‘profound’ questions that could change our way of thinking – about our beliefs, about each other, about our world.

Turns out that it may take only six simple and familiar questions to change our way of thinking – for good. Since four questions form the core process, I have called it ASK4™ – for now. The other two questions relate to us as people – on which the process depends and for whom the benefits accrue. The questions can be used as a way to:

  • Make Vision My Daily Guide – goal-focused (hurdle-aware)
  • Fill a Room with Barbarians – relish others’ opinions
  • Conquer the Fear of Risk – allow for unlimited outcomes
  • Go to the Source – drop my ‘because’/get to the root cause
  • Listen with Purpose – retain vision while allowing for options
  • Be Transparent – accept my limits and seek the highest good

By viewing the world through the simple 6-question lens, it is possible to easily and consistently engage these principles in any situation to:

  • Normalize the perspective – to enable any participant at any level in any culture/language to describe THEIR situation/need/or offer
  • Formalize the process – for collecting everyone’s feedback so that forward progress can be initiated/tracked/completed/measured
  • Legitimize participants – by evaluating and then endorsing those thought leaders who cooperate to craft viable solutions
  • Recognize the contributors – reward champions for their support
  • Optimize performance – engage, manage, and enhance a continuous improvement process and monitor its pertinent results
  • Organize involvement– so that everyone can share in the creation of viable solutions

– so that we all can…

  • Realize – these same cooperative benefits, globally

As now defined ASK4™ is useful as a tool for process improvement. It can also become a powerful online tool for ‘crowd-sourcing’. It does change our conversations, it will change our collaboration, it can change our consensus, or even CHANGE – our world.

We’ll see…
